My Two Week Grocery Challenge

My Two Week Grocery Challenge

I have to really challenge myself this week. I wanted to share with you all the challenge I have made for myself. Because money is going to be tight for the next couple weeks I had to come up with My Two Week Grocery Challenge to keep myself in line. I want to share a little bit about our life with my readers to be able to have a better understanding of why I need this challenge.

Our Family’s Budget:

I will not claim to be financially stable at this point in our lives. What I will say is, we are trying. We are cutting costs, watching our money and making the most out of what we have. I love the idea of a much simpler life. That is why we have chosen to cut things out of our lives we no longer need.

(you can read Why We Ditched Cable Television )

I feel like it’s only fair that I am honest with my readers. So I have decided to let you in on what is going on in our lives with now. We try to pay our rent through January with out tax refund. This frees up that high monthly costs for us.

This past year we had car trouble around tax time as well as a couple other things we had to pay for. (It was a “when it rains it pours” kind of month…or two) This left us only being able to only pay rent until November. Well here we are end of October and Rent is due. We knew it would happen so we have to deal with it.

What this means for us is, we now have very little money to get by until next payday. Less than $350 if I am being honest. Can you live on $350 taking care of three kids for two weeks? I have to take groceries out of that $350 as well as gas and a couple other small things that will add up.

My Challenge This week:

Buy Two Weeks Worth of Groceries For Only $125.00. This is going to take some planning. It will be tough, but I will do my best. With picky eaters you can imagine how much harder this will be for me. I am lucky I have lots of chicken I stocked up on while it was on sale!

With Chicken out-of-the-way I will need to fill in the blanks. Breakfast lunch and dinner as well as snacks. This includes, sides, drinks and ingredients I will need to make each meal. It’s a good thing I look for sale prices right?

My Plan:

My Two Week Grocery Challenge

  • Take note of everything I already have:

This will allow me to not spend money on something I already have. Also allows me to plan around what is already in my kitchen, cutting my cost down. I plan to use a lot of what I have stocked up on in the past few months while great sales were going.

  • Make a Meal Plan:

I need 13 breakfasts, lunches and dinners. I will write down and plan meals around what I have and what is on sale this week. This will require sticking to this plan. (I might through in a frozen pizza for a busy night)

  • Look for any Coupons:

Though coupons for food are hard to come by, I will use whatever I can to keep my costs down.

  • Go Shopping:

I will probably shop at a few different stores. No this will not cost me more in gas. I will actually save more in groceries that I did in gas by not paying full price for the items we will need. Stopping at several store allows you to take advantage of the sale prices. Let’s be honest, most are fairly close to one another anyway.

    Final Thoughts:

So That is my goal this week. I will do my best to stick with it and keep my budget at $125.00 for two weeks of groceries. They reason I wrote this for my readers isn’t so anyone will feel bad for me, I wrote this for those of you who are also struggling to get by . You need to know that you are not alone, but it can be done! “If there is a will there is a way”

Set goals, be honest with yourself and keep strong. Every single day we wake up can be a great day! (even on days we wake up hateful) Look for the good in all things!

I want to Challenge all my readers to try giving yourself a goal on what you can spend in groceries. Let me know how you do. Comment pictures of your shopping trip and tell me how well you did! I love to see others doing well and saving money!
